Mount Vesuvio

Mount Vesuvio, 2004

The Tammurriata has it's origins in ancient Greek dances. Over the last thousand years, however, it has been developed into an Italian folkdance practiced in the towns surrounding the live volcano, Mt. Vesuvio, in the South of Italy. Much of the symbolism in the dance is cyclical, dealing with the cycle of life/death, planting/harvesting, etc.
